Evaluation 7

These two clips are from our final task, i now know how to use transitions like the ones shown. It goes from blurry to making a picture of Harry on th laptop. When i did the preliminary task we did not do many transitions because we was not that experienced with editing.
In our preliminary task we just used things like quick cuts which made things look very unprofessional and quickley done even though it was our first filing experience and did take us a while.

The two pictures above are from our 180 degree rule, this was the first time we did it, well.. second as th first time we tryed to film this part our mic was not on so our words wer not recorded. In our final task i think our convosation between the two characers flowd better and looke less scripted.

When doing our final task i was much more comfortable with experimenting placing the camera in diferent ways to create different angle shots where as in our preliminary task everyhing was pretty much straight forward. Like in our final task we used a pan and slow motion when eiting and in our preliminary task everything was pretty much straight forward.

What have i learnt by doing this final project? How have i adapted to the software and equipment? ~ From finishing my final peice i have learnt so many new things, from using a camera, editing and uploading. ~ Before starting my final peice i knew the basics and how to use a camera but i still was not very confident when filming, i had always done the little things lile handhold the camera so i had no idea to use a tripod or anything else that is used to hold a camera. I knew how to do things tat are really simple like take pictures, film, zoom in and out, pretty much the basics that everyone knows when using a camera. When i started my final peice little did i know there are so may other things to do and use with a camera that could make your film or help it look much better. I realised that focusing the camera was not my best quality but i got there in the end, and learning little things like this and how to use the different settings on a camera has built up my confidence and i am now comfortable with using a camera to film something and know what im doing instead of being clueless with how to work it. Another thing i found really important when filming is LIGHT! I never used to realise how important different lights can effect your film. Natural daylight i found was the best for taking pictures but sometimes when filming it made things just look white and took the detail out of things. EDITING was another area where i was not very confident in. I used to film youtube videos of my own but i didnt really know what i was doing when it come to editing so i kind of just gave up when i felt like my editing failed. I didnt really bother to research what editing documents worked and let me do what i wanted to. For editing my final peice we used Premire elements, i was so amazed with how easy this is to use with abit of commen sence, as i didnt really know how to edit, using premire elements helped me allot and i picked up on how to do things really quickley. The hardest thing i found doing on Premire Elements was inputting sound and voiceovers, but the easy thing i found was putting and cutting each clip in the right place, even though this took a while i liked doing it.

So... how did we attract our audience? Well to attract our audience an the RIGHT audience we made sure the room and area we was filming in was quite plain, pale and boring so that the main focus was on the four main things about the film and the titles which was the two characters (Jess & Harry), the laptop and the scary looking dolls. When adding titles to our opening we didnt just want to put each title on a black screen or just in the corner somewhere so we tryed our best to come up with ways to display the titles which would make the audience think and focus on things at the same time. We had one of our titles going across the screen on the laptop which attracts audience by showing that the laptop could be important, and they will want to know why. In my opinion i think another thing we did to attract our audience was the way we made things seem so normal. So for example, theres nothing much that seems scary or weird about a couple laying on a bed, with a laptop.. theres not a obvious thing that could start all this being scary and that where the laptop steps in. The fact that people will know its a film but the storyline and the way the titles have been acted and set out would make the audience thing "how can this film be scary" so they will want to watch more to find out because if the storyline was predictable i think our target audience could get bored. Another thing that we did to attract our audience was simply by using the laptop. The possesion is triggerd off by the laptop so this could show teenagers that the internet can not always be a safe place and the teenagers could see a different side to something they use in their every day life, this film could acctually make them think about what they are going on when using the internet.

So what is the target audience? - Well, our target audiemce was mainly teenagers because they are the generation that uses and knows all about social networking sites so they could relate to to film. Why would they want to watch our film? - Well in our film is a couple who are the main characters and they are both around the same age as our target audience, the characters being this age makes it easy for the target audience to relate to the characters and in a way know what they are going through. As i mentioned, teenagers are the generation that knows most about social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram etc, and in our titles it shows Jess the girl character using Harrys laptop, many teenagers have laptops and they normally use them to go on the internet which is what Jess has done so they could imagine exactly how Jess would feel when she is watching the video she clicked on because our target audience members could of been in this situation before, where as if our film included a middle-aged couple having a child who might be possesed or of something like that, not many teenagers have the experience of having a baby and starting a family so they might not be able to put themselfs in the mothers shoes and know how she might be feeling. Why else? - In the titles Jess and Harry are both dressed in typical teenager clothes, and they also speak just how teenagers do, and they act this easily as they are teenagers themselfs.

Below is two pictures of the characters in the opening

Harry and Jess are the two main characters in the titles and film, these two characters represent two modern day teenagers in a relationship. Harry is clearly a teenager, our film shows this by what he is wearing, things like bracelets and a onsie is the normal style of a teenager as not many older people wear this kind of thing, the way Harry has styled his hair is very different, and this shows that he takes pride in his appearence and wants to look good. Jess Is wearing a tank top and leapord print trousers, and is wearing makeup, many teenagers wear makeup and as she is wearing a low cut top, this shows she might want to impress Harry.
The way Harry and Jess play around with eachother at the end, smiling and joking about this shows maybe that they are not mature yet so they might not know the dangers that this video has brought. This shows the level of maturity and the relationship between the two of them seems happy and jolly.
The scene makes the teenagers look lazy.
We chose to use teenagers in our film to attract our audience which are also teenagers and can warn people of the dangers of the internet that teenagers may not realise.

Harry reminds me of the guy from paranormal activity, as even though he is the existance of a spirt or gohstly vibe he still jokes around and does not seem to be taking things as seriously as Jess would do.

9 clips Picture Final Film

Evaluation 1

In our film we look into many ways of seeing how our film could develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

Above is a nine frame story board of some clips in our opening titles.

Analysis Of The Task -

Our Title -

Our title is inspired by The Ring, the title for our film looks similar to the rings title apart from ours is more bold and fits with our film, as our film is based around a computer/laptop we wanted the font to look like it has been chosen on a computer document so we used the font called Bold Gothic standard. The rings title is also quite simple like ours and the colours are the same, but i noticed that The rings title is more faded and is outlined by a circle going around the letters. We thought this would be a good way to show our title because it is bold which will stand out and stick into peoples minds. Another thing about our title is the fact that the background is just plain black, it makes the audience focus on the title and thin about what the film could include. Our title also has use of alliteration which can make people remember what he film is called so it is a good way for it to stick i peoples minds.

Setting/Location -

^Scene from paranormal activity^

For our setting/location we have used a home environment, the main setting is in a bedroom, to give a enclosed ( no way out ) feel to the scene. This is very much like the film Paranormal activity. In paranormal activity it is mainly based in a bedroom, and in the bedroom is when most of the paranormal activity happens, this is like out setting because the paranormal activity of the laptop happens in the bedroom whilst someone is in it. We thought that using the idea of a teenage bedroom would relate to allot of teenagers because stereotypically most teenagers spend allot of time in their bedroom as its where they feel most safe and where they can in a way get away from reality, the idea of paranormal activity can come across as something intruding into someones personal space which can put people on edge. In the bedroom we used it was very plain and the colours where very washed out, the room was very small which could make he audience take the position of the character which would feel costraphobic and unsafe with no way out. The fact that the room is quite plain makes the characters stand out as they are the main attraction in the room.

Costumes and Props -

For the costumes we had the characters wearing just casual teenager 'chill out' clothing, so things such as onsies and pj's which makes things look real and gives of the impression that the teenagers could be lazy and links to the idea of a teenager always being in their bedroom. The props we use such as the laptop is the main focus and the main prop, we used a laptop because thats what teenagers like to use and the interent is on the laptop and all teenagers know or do use the interent. It also can give across a message that the interent is not a very safe place as when the girl 'Jess' clicks onto a video, this is what starts of the whole possesion and that bad hings will be happening to her. When the camera work shows Jess walking up the stairs with two drinks in her hand, we wanted the drink to be of a blood kind of colour so we brought a red drink called Tizer and we used this so that it contracsts with the idea of blood which might not be obvious to the audience but it is still one of our ideas. At the end of the film there is a close up of the baby doll and some dolls around it, there was a flash of this baby in her room in the video but Jess does not seem to notice this, the idea of using this prop and showing it at the end shows that the baby may have moved there after the video and shows that some form of spirit has enterd the room. The doll idea came from the film Women In Black, in women in black dolls are shown, maybe as a sign of innocence turning into evil and dolls maybee show a sign of possesion.

Camera work & Editing -

As you can see in the second frame, the close up we used on the laptop shows that is is important and this is one of the main props. The filming was based just upstairs, which gives the audience a imagineation idea of what downstairs could be like. When Jess clicks onto the video she is going to watch on the laptop, it shows her sitting there and when she clicks it you hear the click ten the video begins to play, the screen just shows the video so it makes the audience feel like they are personally watching the video. When the video is over we used slow motion on Harry when he comes out of the toilet, this shows that since the video has played, something has happend to harry and he has changed, by his body language and the lighting. But the harry snaps out of it and becomes normal, this was strange and because we see the way he was before but Jess did not, this gives the audience the idea of knowing something that could put the character in danger.
